There is no fair, or across the board, accommodation for motherhood in a career. PERIOD. It forces many women to wait longer to have children or to decide not to, OR for it to be a constant concern:"What will I do when I need time for my family that I've dedicated to my career? How will it be accepted to do both?" How backwards is that? The mindset should be "I want to be part of a healthy family that my career can support." Instead of, "I need to raise a healthy career that my family can figure out how to fit into."Change the conversation and address the first mindset above, imagine the difference. #renovate #illuminate #whatyoudodefineswhoyoubecome #jennmarieliving

Reposting this powerful quote a week and a half after returning from maternity leave.I had my children 13 years apart. The birth of my first son resulted in a missed promotion. While I was fortunate to take leave, I was away during a critical business change and someone else stepped-up.Fast forward, after the birth of my second son, my husband and I are fortunate to work for organizations that support family leave and are sharing time away, resulting in a shorter gap for me and bonding for each of us. Neither of us takes for granted how fortunate we are for these circ*mstances. The U.S. workplace has come a long way in supporting families, but we have a long way to go. About 40 percent of women working in the U.S. don't qualify for FMLA and just over 20 percent qualify for paid leave. These statistics don't address the need to balance lack of child care options, the disproportionate cost of child care that pushes many woman from the workplace, and the gap created for women caring for aging family. It's time for systemic reform. As we wait for policy and solutions to catch-up, remember to role model change, advocate for better policy with your employer, and make the choices that are best for your family because there isn't a solution that works for everyone.

The discussion around the 'motherhood penalty' is not just crucial; it's overdue. The fact that a decade after having children, mothers suffer a staggering 60% more economically than fathers is a stark reminder of the systemic inequities plaguing our society. Allison Robinson's insights at SXSW, alongside a powerful panel of women, shed light on the complex interplay between motherhood and career trajectories, offering much-needed perspectives on navigating these challenges. This conversation is a reminder that the path to gender equality in the workplace requires acknowledging and addressing these deep-rooted biases. As we strive for progress, let's champion policies and cultural shifts that support all parents, ensuring women don't have to choose between career success and family. #GenderEquality #MotherhoodPenalty #WomenEmpowerment"

It is not possible for me to put into words my gratitude for the learning opportunities afforded to me (and the field) by Dr. Ala'i-Rosales. So in the absence of the right words, here are some of hers from a chapter and book we should all be more familiar with."Brief didactic instructions are not enough to change anything except possibly verbal behavior. We learn by doing. Verbal behavior is indeed an important skill, but actual teaching performances are required to change the behaviors that will make meaningful, measurable differences in the lives of the people our trainees are instructing." (Ala'i-Rosales et al., 2003, p. 161)Ala’i-Rosales, S., Thorisdottir, S., & Etzel, B. C. (2003). Behavioral teacher training programs. In K. S. Budd & T. Stokes (Eds.), A small matter of proof: the legacy of Donald M. Baer (pp. 151–165). Reno, NV: Context Press.

I come from an industry that is predominantly powered by #women However, even today, most industries are dominated by men. In 2022, #data collected from the International Labour Organization concluded that, out of 180 countries - the #unitedstates ranks number 71 for % of women in the workforce. The percentage of women in the #workforce in the U.S is 46.38% Women remain #underrepresented at all levels, in most industries. However, know that when you call 9-1-1 it’s likely that the #hero under the headset is a #strong , #brave , #courageous #female According to a Bureau of Labor Statistics report in 2021 - 74% if 911 operators are women. “People need to see leaders who look like themselves, to understand that it’s possible for them.” Happy #womenshistorymonth #womenempowerment #womenchangemakers #genderequality #911dispatch #911dispatcher #dispatchers #publicsafety #publicsector #everydayheroes
